Revitalization Areas in Phoenix
HUD revitalization areas are designated
geographic areas.
The criteria for designation is
specified by Congress at 12 USC 1710(h). The criteria are:
very low income, a low homeownership rate or a
disproportionately high concentration of delinquent or
foreclosed FHA-insured properties.
HUD designates revitalization areas for
the purposes of expanding homeownership opportunities by
offering for sale, at a discount, HUD-owned single family
properties located in these areas.
Revitalization areas are the basis for
HUD programs such as the Asset Control Area program, Good
Neighbor Next Door Program (formerly the Officer/Teacher
Next Door Program), and the Direct Sales Program for
Nonprofit agencies and Municipalities.
